Internship – Coupling a transmon qubit with an ensemble of rare-earth ions

DESCRIPTION OF THE SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

The student will get the opportunity to work on an experiment that involves the strong coupling of rare-earth defects to a superconducting circuit, coupled to a transmon qubit. The goal of this experiment is to create an entangled state of the rare-earth defects with the transmon. The student will work both on the experimental side, data analysis and theory. Our setup consists mainly of microwave signals sent in a dilution refrigerator.

METHODS AND TECHNIQUES

Dilution refrigerator, microwave signal generation and analysis (heterodyne/homodyne), Python simulations and data analysis.

APPLICANT SKILLS/ REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong background in quantum mechanics and quantum optics (preferably includind open systems). Existing experience in experimental Physics.
